Yo yo yo! Fish Porn is back in action after a little summer vacation. Since I just finished it, I thought I’d share this little video I just did for Cheeky Fly Fishing. It was a blast to be at their first ever Schoolie Tournament and I’m looking forward to incorporating some of the footage into the striper project I’m working on now.
Enjoy y’all.
It’s time for the first “Saturday Spotlight.” For this test run here, I chose to interview Ivan Orsic (pronounced ee-vahn ore-shish) from Yukon Goes Fishing. Ivan focuses on short format films that usually highlight a fishing trip.
Without anymore delay, why don’t y’all take a look at this interview I did with Ivan and hear all about the YGF films from his point of view. (It’s also the first interview I’ve ever done so just keep that in mind while you watch this. I swear, I’ll get better)
For your reference, I’ve included the three films I spoke to Ivan about in the interview below.

And a thank you on this Tuesday to FishbuzzTV on Vimeo for bringing us some tarpon footage, which is something you really never can get enough of.
Here’s why I love this: the description says: “No story just fish porn.” Story of my life man, story of my life.
“THE FLY FISHING NATION MIXTAPE VOL. 1” from The Fly Fishing Nation on Vimeo.
BOOM. Get your carp together. “Carp Chasers - Carp on the Fly” from Mr. Brownliner.
Some boomers in here and who doesn’t love Tom Petty? Yeah, the footage is a little shaky but you know what? I really dig fish porn and l love watching people get jacked about carp so if I’ll deal.
On that note, if you haven’t caught a carp or at least tried, you’re missing out. Missing out HARD.
“where the rivers meet” from Gisle Helgesen on Vimeo,
Can’t really say much about for/about the music because I’m just a simple American with a weird taste in music to begin with but some of this footage is pretty wild (particularly around 3:15).
Side note: Crystal clear streams set up so great for fly fishing video it’s not even right.
Announcing the “Saturday Spotlight”
For a while I’ve been wanting to talk about the body of work that a certain crew or individual filmmaker puts together as a whole. Rather than talk about pieces, let’s talk about the whole. Anyone can put a video on a website but I’ll try to take it a little further.
So I’ve decided to create a semi-regular blog post called the “Saturday Spotlight.” I’ll pick a few of my favorite videos from a particular creative group or person and I’ll try to dive in a little bit deeper and see what they’ve contributed to the world of fly fishing video. Depending on how far this goes I may even ask the subject to do a Skype interview with me so we can hear about their videos in their own words.
I’ll make it cool but it won’t be every Saturday for a couple of reasons:
- It’ll be a fair amount of work and I like fishing more than I like blogging so until something changes to make saying no to fishing a little easier, I’ll keep going fishing.
- There aren’t a whole lot of people who have more than three videos. Hell some of the most successful videos have been one and dones. I’d rather keep this going for a while then run it out in 20 weeks or something like that.
- Because it’s my website and what I say goes. Capiche? Capiche.
“Valley Maker. A Driftless Video.” from Currents on Vimeo
This one deserves a full look. If not for the DEEEEEEEEECCCCCENT trout at the end (I mean come on, did you see the size of that stream?) then at least for its indie coffee house/film festival winning video that weird girl who’s actually pretty cute made you watch kind of feel. With simple shots, pure images, and a song that fits those two things perfectly, this video creates its own ground in your fly fishing mind. Go there.
“Spring Cleaning” by The Marble Trout. I like the vibe of this video. It’s one of those “this is how we do” style of videos. Looking forward to more from these guys.
“Green Drake” from TroutHunter on Vimeo.
See here’s the thing about fly fishing video: it’s about the footage and the story. I mean you barely even saw a fish in this video and you’re already checking out flights on Kayak.com (buy that ticket buddy, you only live once).
What a kickass vid. Simple, sexy, and short.
